WebWarper / Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) / Usage of WebWarper

When I post something to the forum, a text with my IP is added to my message. Is it possible to block this?

Regretfully, no.

Using WebWarper for anonymous posting of text messages in forums, guest books, e-mail systems and any others web forms is prohibited. In case you send any text data through web forms, your message is supplied with signature that directly contains your IP address.

It is a compulsory measure. When a message is posted to some server via WebWarper, the server logs message sender as the owner of webwarper.net IP address, i.e. our company. If a message contain illegal content — for example, defamatory or racist statements — it can cause serious problems for us. Clear adding the true author's IP is a compulsory protection from such misuse of anonymity.

Also, when messages are posted (it is the only case), the original visitor's IP address is sent to the server in x-forwarded-for request header and can be read by server script from $_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'] (PHP) or $ENV{'HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'} variable (Perl). The owners of forums, guest books and similar resources can use this technique to ban undesirable visitors. See the question "Does WebWarper prevent from anonymous postings on my site? How to determine IP of a visitor which posts messages via WebWarper?" in this regard.
